Canggu - Itinerary

You might be already planning your 2024 trips, which might include a trip to Bali. If it does not include a trip to Bali, it should!

And what other place is more well know in Bali than Canggu, the coolest and hippest place in Bali, with the best coffee shops and stores in Bali.

Where to stay?

Belajar Bali

If you are going to Bali, one of the first things you might be considering is: where should I stay? Well my friend, look no further! You HAVE to stay at Belajar Bali!

Why is this the perfect place to stay you might ask?

  1. It’s small. There are only 8 huts in the Hotel, each one with a double bed. So you will never have to share the Hotel with a lot of people and drown in a mess of other tourists.

  2. It’s an adult only Hotel. Since this place is focused on relaxing, children are not accepted in the Hotel. Now I know this is controversial, but if you have small children, you will find a lot of other places to stay around Canggu, don’t worry. As a child free woman that deals with anxiety, I have to say that my stay at an adults only Hotel was the most relaxing experience of my life.

  3. It’s really close to a busy street, even though you can’t hear a bip! If you leave the Hotel on foot, after 1 minute walking - maybe not even that much - you will find yourself in a very busy street, next to supermarkets, cafes and stores of all kinds.

  4. It’s sooooo pretty! Look, I like to be surrounded by pretty things ok? And pretty spaces really influence my mood. Belajar is probably the prettiest Hotel I have ever stayed in! I’ll let the photos speak for themselves.

Another really cool thing about this place is that they can rent you a scooter if you need to, or a private tour to any of the tourist attractions around Canggu.

Belajar Bali from above

Ok ok ok… I know this is not necessarily cheap. I get that. Not everyone can afford this place, and I get that. I did not stay the whole 15 days there because it is also a little off budget for me. BUT, if you can, even if just for a day or two, I’d say it is worth it! Staying in a place like this is a whole experience. When I arrived, I truly felt like I was checking into this boogie spa place, where everyone is wearing white and speaking calmly to me during the check in process.

So yeah, in my opinion, if you have the extra funds, you HAVE to stay at Belajar!

If you can’t really afford a place like Belajar, worry not, you will find pretty cool Hotels and Hostels all around Canggu, which are much cheaper! I would advise researching using Booking.com and Airbnb!

Where to eat?

One thing you will not have to worry about while staying in Canggu is food. There are soooo many cafes and restaurants with the most varied types of foods, you simply cannot go wrong. Since this is a tropical destination, where the heat is a constant and the fruits are amazing, I have always favoured salads and fruit bowl places to get my daily dose of food.

If you are right now wondering, yeah, but I can’t afford eating out everyday! Actually, it is not that expensive! You can find a tone of places with the most delicious food for 5 EUR or less. Here go a few of my favourite places to eat in Canggu!

  • Kynd Community

  • Give Cafe

  • The Avocado Factory

  • Luma

  • Milk & Madu

  • Crate Cafe

  • Neighbourhood Food

  • Penny Lane

  • The Shady Shack

  • Pels Supershop

  • Little Frenchie

  • Front Cafe

  • Cinta Cafe

  • Touché

  • Matcha Cafe

  • Canteen

What to do in Canggu?

Shopping and Beach

Canggu in itself is more of a growing city than a tropical jungle, so if you think you are going to find hidden waterfalls or incredible rice fields around here, I’m sorry to say you will be disappointed. Canggu is probably a good place to stay if you are able to move around either by car or scooter, and if you want to be near the hustle and bustle of the “city”.

You will find a lot of stores and local markets everywhere, to spend a few of your hard earned money on trinkets and souvenirs.

This is also the place for you if you want to stay in a nice hotel, go out for diner and finish your night at a beach club dancing the night away. The beaches in Canggu are full of really nice beach clubs and cafes where you will be able to enjoy some sun during the day, and some music during the night.

Assuming you have a scooter or a private driver - you will need one - you can go check out some nearby places that are worth the trip!

  • Tanah Lot

  • Balangan Beach

  • Karang Boma Cliff

  • Nyang Nyang Beach

  • Dreamland Beach

Eat, Pray, Love

I’m sure you have watched the Eat Pray Love movie at some point (or maybe you haven’t).. But it’s all about self discovery and letting go of toxicity and preconceived ideas we all think, as a society, we must follow.

In Bali you will feel that, just like Julia Robberts, you too will be able to let go of these preconceived notions and heal body and soul.

You will find in Canggu a lot of Yoga studios, Health and Healing spots, Health bars and self improvement classes. Although I did not participate in any of these classes or spas, I can recommend Maja Spa, that recently opened to the public.

Very close to Belajar (check above), Maja Spa offers massages, facials, art classes, pilates and yoga and much more!

Other than that, you can go check out Airbnb Experiences to find some yoga classes by the sea or reiki sessions with one of those health gurus you hear about on the internet!

Let me know if you have ever done something like this! I am actually curious and would be 200% down to try the healing lifestyle in Bali!

Should you just stay in Canggu?

ABSOLUTELY NOT !

Although Canggu is probably the hippest and coolest place in Bali, where you will find more Hotels and Villas, supermarkets, cool stores, amazing health studios and matcha bars, I would not recommend staying just in Canggu!

Bali is pretty diverse, and incredibly beautiful. As such, it deserves to be explored!

My advice?

If you can, try to divide your stay between a few other places.

  • Uluwatu

  • Ubud

  • Sideman

  • Nusa Penida

  • Gili Islands

I’d love to hear your experience about Bali and Canggu overall!

Let me know in the comments!
